SOMA = the living body + therapy = treatment to heal or relieve
"Most psychologists treat the mind as disembodied, a phenomenon with little or no connection to the physical body. Conversely physicians treat the body with no regard to the mind or the emotions. But the body and mind are not separate, and we cannot treat one without the other."
Candice Pert, Molecules of Emotion
SOMAtherapy has its core belief in the whole person - our biological functioning, our rational mind, our emotional landscape and our natural capacity to adapt and heal.
Working from a trauma informed somatic perspective it is possible to transform the ways we connect with self, others and our environment. Informed by attachment and relational theories SOMAtherapy helps...
Self esteem & confidence
Working with somatic awareness you...
recognise resources which nurture and sooth you
recognise the language of your body and what it is telling you
connect your thoughts and emotions to your inner body responses and sensations
open to a greater range of life experiences
My role as a Somatic Therapist is to move with you on your journey of discovery. To guide when necessary, to counsel if needed, but most importantly to be present with you in a place which is safe, supportive and healing as you begin a deeper understanding of your body self.
To truly value our uniqueness we need more than thought.
We need to connect our emotional sensate body to our thinking mind.
Connecting the way we act and the way we think together,
we become present in the way we are.
We become authentic to our being, open to accepting our uniqueness and learn to connect to others in nourishing ways.
